Beijing Welcomes You!

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Today I arrived in Beijing. The airport is REALLY large and I was surprised by how many trees you can see from the plane window as the plane landed. It almost looked like we were going to land in a random field without a runway at first. The new subway lines are obviously new (very clean). However, I have to say that, honestly, the easiest-to-use and most organized city subway system I’m aware of is that of Seoul’s in South Korea. Even if you don’t speak or read any Korean, it’s quite well set up to make transportation quick and convenient. But back to Beijing…I checked out Wangfujing today, a place famous for shopping, restaurants, and many tourists. I preferred our previous destination: Beihai Park, a relaxing and beautiful spot with 1000 years of history and a very large lake. Tomorrow I will take the train from Beijing to Taiyuan. It will be my first time to visit that city! I’m slowly adapating now from Korean culture & language to Chinese. After 36 days in South Korea, I guess I was really adapting. Time to adapt again!

Peace from Beijing,
